What’s growing week of 6/6

Hello farm friends! This week everything went wild with the heat, vegetables and weeds included! The newest crop to go bananas is not bananas, but beans! We have tons of nice green beans for you all this week. We also harvested the last of the broccoli before it is just too hot, there is a good amount! SInce it was hot this week, the broccoli may be better cooked than raw, it starts to get a little bitter at these temperatures. This is one of my favorite times of year, when the giant catalpa trees on our block flower at the same time as the peonies. If you don’t have catalpas nearby, you may have never gotten to see the flowers up close, they are amazing! Also we have lots of thunderstorms in the forecast for this week, which I hope to enjoy from the safety of my bed. Summer is here!

This is the last week of our Spring CSA! We have had six weeks of some nice spring treats despite the crazy cold of February and March, and now it is time for the main season to begin. The hot weather staple crops are getting enormous in the high tunnel, and we are starting to see flowers and small fruits on the tomatoes, peppers and eggplants. I cant wait!
